Three Embarrassing Confessions About My Year {What To Do When You’re Stressed

As I alluded to in my post about our homeschooling year, while overall I loved homeschooling (and will do it again) I was a little disappointed in how our year went. Here are three embarrassing confessions about our school year.

  1. I frequently slept in until 8:00, then rolled out of bed to make breakfast.
  2. Many times the boys watched Curious George and Wild Kratts before I got out of bed.
  3. Sometimes, we didn’t start school until 10:00, and I was still in my pajamas.

Why am I telling you this? I am not telling you this to say, oh, it’s fine, we’re all human, easy, breezy, have a super relaxed summer dude. (Do people say “dude” anymore? I honestly have no clue.)

Sure, we have C+ seasons and not straight A seasons. This was my C+ season, first year homeschooling, with a baby waking several times a night. The spinning world is not going to stop, and my children will be JUST. FINE.

But I’m ready for a change.

I didn’t like starting off the day five steps behind.

I didn’t like missing my quiet times in the morning.

I didn’t like teaching math half-asleep.

I am ready for a change. I’m ready to steer my days with purpose and intention. And also, to brush my teeth before noon. Is that too much for a mom to ask?

When my sister posted recently that she was doing the Makeover Your Mornings Course, I knew immediately I was going to join her. Since I’m a blogger, I usually get all the courses and e-books I want for free. I don’t remember the last time I paid for one.

But this one? I paid every cent, full price. I knew I needed it, and I needed it now. I am on Day 3 of this course and I just love it. It’s a combination video/workbook, and I’ll be honest. Typically when it’s a video series, I think, “Ughhhh.” I can usually read way faster than the stupid videos, and it’s a waste of time.

Not this one!

Ever met someone who’s so interesting, so put-together, you just want to watch everything they do and try to be like them? Even the way their walls are decorated, or their nails are painted or the way they stir their coffee – you just want to soak it in ?

That’s how I feel about Crystal (the “Money Saving Mom.”) She is the real deal. I love seeing little snippets of her mornings, making her coffee, having her quiet time. Plus the videos are short (like four minutes!) and to-the-point. It’s only Day 3 and I already have a plan for my evening, and a new plan for my morning. I can’t wait to see what else we’re going to learn.

Do you feel stressed about your mornings?

Do you want this year to be better than last?
