Be A Different Kind Of Mom

The Donkey Talks

By jessica Leave a comment

In the Old Testament there’s a story about a man – Balaam, I think? – who keeps disobeying God, and God finally gets his attention through an unlikely source – his donkey.

On an unrelated note, is anyone familiar with Miley Cirus? She’s better known to most 10-year-olds as Hannah Montana. Anyways, sixteen-year-old Miley’s current song (at least I think it’s still the current song) is called “Climb.” During those first very difficult weeks of being Sam’s mom (and being very tempted to “wish away” those trying days) Miley’s song brought me to tears (and my knees) more than “Come Thou Fount” or any of the other usuals. I’m sure Miley has no idea that she’s been the vehicle of the Holy Spirit in my life, but ironically enough, she has 🙂

Here are some of the words:

I can almost see it, That dream I am dreaming
But there’s a voice inside my head saying “You’ll never reach it”
Every step I’m taking, Every move I make feels lost with no direction, My faith is shaking
But I gotta keep trying; gotta keep my head held high
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle; sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there, Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side- It’s the climb
The struggles I’m facing, The chances I’m taking sometimes might knock me down But no, I’m not breaking
I may not know it, but these are the moments thatI’m gonna remember most, yeah…I gotta keep going…
