Be A Different Kind Of Mom

Family-Friendly TV Shows on Disney+, Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix

Looking for family-friendly TV shows? It can be difficult to find wholesome, entertaining shows for the whole family. I have two boys (12 and 10) and a girl who is 6 and it’s been a struggle to find shows that are worthwhile, clean, and that we really enjoy. Over the years we have found a few family-friendly TV shows that are really good, and I’m sharing those here! Many of these are available for free with subscriptions to Amazon Prime, Disney +, Hulu, and Netflix.

Please comment below with your favorite!

As always, these may not be appropriate for your family. I always suggest previewing the show with your kids.

If you are looking for specifically shows for kids seven and under, see my post, 10 Shows I Let My Young Kids Watch.

How to choose family-friendly TV shows

Here is the criteria I used:

  • generally clean language. Some of these shows have a few “h” or “d” words 😉 or words “bleeped out.” I am not thrilled with that, but we talk about what language we use in our home, and more than that, we talk about the overall message of the show.
  • overall good message. I would rather watch a show that has one small profanity, but is showing positive role models for my kids or teaching them a valuable lesson. Here’s an example: I’d prefer letting my kids watch the educational Dirty Jobs where hard work, dignity, and intellectual curiosity is valued, vs of the “preteen” shows are a complete waste of time.
  • lack of sexual content or innuendo. Hard pass. Not worth it.
