We did a lot of entertaining and hosting over the holidays. My goal for food was to make things that were allergy-friendly for my son Sam, but also DELICIOUS and special for the holidays. I think I succeeded! Since Sam is the only one of us eating allergy-free, I also included one “regular” item (usually something with cheese . I just tried to pick something that wouldn’t involve a lot of mess to make or eat, since I don’t want milk all over the place for Sam’s sake! The allergy-friendly items were a big hit, though! Here are some of my choices for appetizers and meals suitable for everyone.
- sweet and sour meatballs
- braised white beans with pitas or corn chips
- black bean hummus with kettle chips
- Crostinis with thyme-roasted tomatoes
- mixed greens with balsamic glaze
- braised short ribs
- allergy-friendly scalloped potatoes
- dairy-free wheat dinner roll for bread machine (does contain wheat but free of milk and egg)
- overnight crock pot oatmeal (be sure to use regular oats, not quick cooking. Oops. Made that mistake.)
- Honey-baked ham (from the Honeybaked Ham) with baked potatoes and roasted carrots
- Paula Deen’s Sweet Chicken Bacon Wraps
- Dairy and Egg Free Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

Hello! I found your blog through Keeper of the Home. Do you have a good recipe you use for your dairy free cinnamon rolls? I don’t need them egg free but I would still be interested in your recipe.

Hi there! Thanks for asking! I have sort of tweaked a few things together to make them myself… Do you have a bread machine? I’ve found that the easiest way to make them is to use a simple wheat bread recipe (such as this one: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/honey-whole-wheat-bread/), set the bread machine for the “dough” course. (By the way, you don’t need to do whole wheat, but you can hardly tell the difference, and then it’s SLIGHTLY healthier! 🙂 *Then when the dough is prepared (it takes about 1 1/2 hours on my machine…) I take it out and roll it to 1/2 inch-thick rectangle on a clean, floured counter. Then I melt plenty of coconut oil or dairy-free butter (We use Smart Balance Vegan Organic Blend) and brush all over the dough. I sprinkle with a VERY generous amount of cinnamon and brown sugar. Then roll the dough, starting with one of the long sides. Then cut into inch segments, and lay with the cinnamon part up into a 9×9 greased pan and cover with greased plastic wrap. I let it rise until doubled, 1-2 hours. Then I bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned on top, and brush with melted butter or coconut oil.
I’m sorry it is not a more detailed recipe…I intend to post it here with pictures the next time I make it! Let me know if that helps…If you don’t have a bread machine, you could use the same concept by making your dough in a standing mixer and letting rise for 1 hour in a greased bowl. Then proceed with beginning at * above 🙂
