We are blessed with a wonderful little group of neighborhood kids and mamas. For months I’ve been thinking I’d like to host a backyard Bible club. But I don’t have a bazillion dollars, and I’m not a Pinterest guru. (Unless you mean “guru” at pinning amazing crafts, but not actually doing them. In that case, yes, I’m a champ.)
I just wanted a simple, frugal way to teach these kids about Jesus, and have fun.
I looked for this free curriculum I liked, but I couldn’t find one. (Feel free to share suggestions!) So I wrote one.
Here was my goal:
Make a curriculum that any mom, anywhere, could use to teach kids about Jesus, using just a kids’ Bible, songs you know, and normal craft stuff you have on hand.
Sure, a simpler lesson makes it easier on the mom in charge, but there’s other great reasons to keep it simple.
The truth is, what’s a better message than the simple truth that God made them, and God loves them? Nothing!
And – often, aren’t the simpler games and crafts the ones the kids end up loving the most? Kids just want to be together, to do something different, and to learn something they actually understand.
You’ll find my curriculum in the file attached below. It’s a four-day curriculum, and I chose four stories (one for each day) that each teach a basic lesson about God. We just LOVE the The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name.
If you have a different children’s Bible on hand, you could use that, as well. The main idea is that you read the story each day, discuss the main point that I have listed, and then proceed through the rest of the activities.

I thought you would get a kick out of this. We were visiting a church last weekend up here in N. Florida , andChapin’s Sunday school teacher asked her if she knew her books of the bible. She replied, “Sally, Lloyd, and Jones.” Obviously, we love the Jesus sStorybook Bible, too

Hi Julia, Yes there are only four lessons. We do Tues-Fri for our VBS 🙂
