It’s that time of year…No, not referring to the *beautiful* yellow dusting of pollen & profuse sneezing and wheezing…I mean it’s the time of year when moms start saying, “Did you put sunscreen on him?” “Can I borrow your sunscreen?” “How old are babies when they need sunblock?” Etc. etc. etc.
Unfortunately, sunscreens are notorious for being full of J.U.N.K. that none of us need in our bodies.
I use the very helpful site EWG’s Skin Deep Database to look up skincare products to see how horrible (or not) they are for our bodies. They give each product a rating (0-10) of how safe it is. I used this for sunscreens, and I came up with a list of some I’d recommend.
Here is the criteria I used to select the sunscreens I’ll use:
- Safe, according to the EWG website. (No score of 2 or higher.)
- Relatively cheap (because there is liquid gold sunscreen that you’d use up in three applications, but who needs that?!?)
- Easy to get (free shipping, Vitacost, Amazon, etc.)
Here are my sunscreen recommendations:
Lotions:
Kiss My Face Sunscreen with Hydresia
BabyGanics Cover Up Baby Sunscreen for Face & Body, Fragrance Free
All-Terrain Aquasport Sunscreen
Badger Sunscreen
Sprays:
All-Terrain Aquasport SPRAY
Kiss My Face Spray Lotion
Stick:
All Terrain Stick
Babyganics Stick

I prefer this over any natural sunscreen I’ve used. Rubs in great and minimal ingredients unlike some “natural” ones. Used exclusively last summer on 3 fair skinned children with no burns.
